Snow Swallow Gum 雪燕 is a natural gum secreted by selected plant trees. Although its Chinese name contains the word “燕”, it is a plant-based ingredient and is not bird’s nest.
When fully soaked, the small dry pieces expand considerably and develop a soft, translucent, slightly stringy texture. It is commonly used in Chinese-style sweet soups and nourishing dessert recipes together with peach gum, soapberry seed, snow fungus, red dates and goji berries.
As Snow Swallow Gum is a minimally processed natural product, variations in colour, shape and size are normal. Small traces of natural bark or plant material may occasionally be present and should be removed during preparation.

Preparation Guidance
- Use only a small quantity, as Snow Swallow Gum expands considerably.
- Soak in plenty of clean water for approximately 12–18 hours, or until fully expanded.
- Change the soaking water if necessary.
- Gently remove any visible bark or natural impurities.
- Rinse thoroughly and drain.
- Add during the final 10–15 minutes of cooking.
Avoid prolonged boiling, as the delicate texture may dissolve or become excessively soft.
Simple Serving Suggestion
Combine soaked Snow Swallow Gum with prepared peach gum, snow fungus, red dates and goji berries. Simmer gently, then sweeten with rock sugar according to taste. Serve warm or chilled.
